“Would you consider moving into a leadership role”, my leader asked? “Nope, I responded, I can barely lead myself!” Fast forward a couple of years, and just making my way back into town from traveling for the job. I had a 1 on 1 meeting with my leader. I learned we would soon go through a restructure and there would be an opportunity to move up. It caught my attention this time, because I had grown weary from all of the travelling, I had done over the past year.
My leader was in the process of creating a leadership role, and was considering me, but she wanted to gauge my interest. This time I replied, āIām ready.ā After overseeing a company-wide leadership training program, with a vast network of volunteer facilitators, I now believed I was up to leading others.
So, I went through the process, and landed my 2nd promotion in 3.5 years into a role that once again was created with me in mind. Wow! I finally realized I needed to stop chasing titles, and instead focus on creating value. This last promotion was a game-changer, and I’m humbled by the opportunities it has afforded me.
Keep pushing! Your breakthrough is soon to come.
